IN ORDER TO ORGANISE AUDITIONS IN THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY POSSIBLE PLEASE CONTACT ANTHEA ROTH BEFORE 30 NOVEMBER - randaroth@bluewin.ch to indicate for which role(s) you wish to be considered for, or chorus only, and whether you are available to audition on 10 and 11 December. You will then be contacted with the date and an approximate time for your audition.

Full rehearsals will start in mid-January, although it is hoped that there will be an initial get together of the cast on Monday 4 January 2010 for a sing-through with Julian McNamara, our Musical Director.

| THE MOTHER ABBESS | The Mother Superior of Nonnberg Abbey. | Mezzo-soprano. Must show an inner spiritual strength and maturity. Is loved and revered by all with whom she comes into contact. Audition music: Climb every mountain |

| SISTER BERTHE | The Mistress of Novices at the Abbey. | Soprano. Believes that Maria’s behaviour at the Abbey is unacceptable. Audition music: Maria |

| SISTER MARGARETTA | The Mistress of Postulants at the Abbey. | Wants to understand Maria but finds it difficult. Soprano. Audition music: Maria |

| SISTER SOPHIA | A nun at the Abbey. | Soprano. Confused as to her reaction to Maria. Audition music: Maria |

| FRAU SCHMIDT | The housekeeper of the Von Trapp household | Of a certain age. Non-singing role. Authoritative but kind. |

| LIESL | The eldest of the Von Trapp children, “16 going on 17” | Soprano. Trying to find her identity as a young adult. Much attracted to Rolf. Must sing, act and dance. Solos and ensembles. Audition music: Sixteen going on seventeen. |

| ELSA SCHRAEDER | A Viennese socialite | Elegant, flippant and rich, is being courted by Captain von Trapp with a view to an eventual marriage. A close friend of Max Detweiler. Non-singing role. | |

| CAPTAIN GEORG VON TRAPP | Formerly a Sea Captain of the Austrian Navy. | Baritone. Deeply opposed to any union between Nazi Germany and his beloved Austria. The importance is to demonstrate the transformation from a military style discipline to a man who falls in love and eventually marries Maria. Solos and ensembles. Audition music: Something Good and Edelweiss. |

| FRANZ | The butler of the Von Trapp household. | Non-singing role. Performs his duties to perfection but possesses a darker side in that he has become a member of the Nazi party. |

| ROLF GRUBER | “17 going on 18”, a young Austrian who delivers telegrams. | High baritone. Is attracted to Liesl, In his naivete, joins the Nazi party. Must sing, act and dance. Audition music: Sixteen going on Seventeen. |

| MAX DETWEILER | Affable but unscrupulous | Debonair Viennese impresario who will take advantage of any situation that might be of interest to him. A close friend of Elsa Schraeder and loved by the Von Trapp children. Non-singing role. |

| HERR ZELLER | An Austrian turned Nazi. | Small role. Non-singing. |
