Taking us from the Italian Dolomites to Bangkok, Chess tells a story of love and intrigue, in which all the individuals become entangled in a diplomatic 'tug of war',  where every player is a pawn - but in whose game?
The story revolves around the romantic triangle that develops during the World Chess Championships in 1986. The American champion, accompanied by his girlfriend, defends his title against a challenger from Russia.   What starts off as a game gradually takes over and changes their lives for ever. The chess theme just provides a backdrop to the relationships between the principal characters – and the whole story is really an excuse for some wonderful music . You do not have to play or understand chess to enjoy the show.
