Upcoming October concert
:
The first rehearsal for our October concert will be Tuesday 8 June. This programme will be sung under the direction of Keith Dale (organist and choir master at Holy Trinity Church, Geneva). The concert will take place Saturday October 16, and the programme will include some super music: motets, anthems, songs of farewell and R. Vaughan Williams' "Five Mystical Songs". Rehearsals with Keith will continue until the end of June, then break during the summer with a working weekend end August, and then recommence early in September. As usual, we welcome new singers, and MEN are particularly encouraged to sign up!
Choral Group General Information
The Group meets weekly in term-time, on Tuesdays from 18h.15 to 19h.45, at the Ecole
Henri Dunant, avenue Edmond Vaucher, Châtelaine (near Balexert). The Group has sung a wide variety of repertoire, and the year's programme usually includes two major concerts as well as the Christmas Music evening.
In May 2010 we and members of the Durham (UK) Choral Society together performed the Mozart Mass in C minor (The Great Mass) in Geneva's St Pierre Cathedral to standing room crowd. Peter Billington ably directed us, orchestra and soloists in this wonderful work. The Choral Group's October 2009 concert, held in the Auditoire de Calvin, comprised a selection of short choral and solo works by Schubert and Vaughan Williams of poems set to music, culminating with Vaughan Williams' lyrical version of "Toward the Unknown Region" by Walt Whitman, all directed by Peter Billington and masterfully accompanied by Joan Cambitsis.
The Group is always happy to have new singers and would
particularly welcome Tenors and Basses. Please note that
participation implies being a paid-up member of GAOS. See

A Brief History of the
Choral Group
The GAOS Choral Group
was formed in 1985 to provide a continuing musical activity
for members of GAOS wishing to “keep in voice” in between
shows. Since its formation, it has performed music ranging
from Vivaldi to Bernstein and including sacred music, Broadway
musicals, folk music, jazz/pop and operetta. It has appeared
three times at Victoria Hall with the Orchestre Symphonique
Genevois, in works by Schubert, Verdi and Dvorak.
