Synopsis
It is 1933, and in the United States of America, the Great Depression is taking its toll. High unemployment plagues New York City, and misery hangs in the air. It is in this dark, dismal reality, that 11-year old orphan, Annie resides. Annie has grown up in an orphanage, under the stern hand of a bitter middle-aged woman, Miss Agatha Hannigan. Miss Hannigan, resenting her own bad luck, takes it upon herself to make life miserable for the orphans under her care. Believing her parents to be still alive, Annie escapes, and runs into both Sandy the dog, and a group of people suffering the effects the depression. Unfortunately, Annie is soon caught and returned to the orphanage. However, immediately after Annie’s return, Grace Farrell, secretary to billionaire Oliver Warbucks, arrives stating that Mr. Warbucks would like an orphan to spend Christmas with him in his mansion. Annie is whisked away and experiences a New York she has never seen before. Although happier than she has ever been, Annie still longs only for her real parents. Upon learning this, Mr. Warbucks releases a statement on the radio announcing that he will present $50,000 to anyone who can prove they are Annie’s parents. Thousands begin to claim parentage of Annie; however no one seems to know about Annie’s locket. No one that is, except for a Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Shirley Mudge…
