In July 1862, The Reverend Charles Dodgson, alias Lewis Carroll, a young Oxford don, took the day off and went rowing on the river with the Dean's daughters. The eventful picnic was noted in detail and gave rise to Alice 's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Both books are so well known and are such favourites, that they are now considered folklore by many.
And now for the story …
Young Alice, who dreams of a world full of fantasy and fun, without the dull, logical constraints that seem to be imposed on her by the adult world, gets very drowsy on this hot summer's day.
Her dream begins in the form of a White Rabbit, whom she follows and who takes her into a world that gets curiouser and curiouser. Alice 's first discovery is a beautiful Garden, with Flowers and Fountains but which she cannot approach. Her quest is very clear – how to get to this idyllic place. However, many obstacles seem to arise, and the people and characters she meets are great personalities, who bring fun and drama to her quest. At the end of Act One, she can at last enter the garden. However, Act Two brings other surprises – and the large pack of cards that come alive in the Garden have their own illogical adult fantasy – ending with Alice on Trial. Be assured, all's well that ends well !
Alice is older, wiser and definitely more grown up!
