"A Slice of Saturday Night"
Words and music by the Heather Brothers
September 19-22 2001 at the Theatre d'Esperance, Geneva
A Slice of Saturday Night performed to 4 full houses 19-22 September 2001, its
conception being merely 6 months earlier after a successful musical evening in February.
A rocking rollicking time was had by cast, crew audience, and theatre concierge alike. Over the course of 2 hours, 31
musical numbers related the trials and tribulation of being seventeen, set in a nightclub "The Club-A Go Go"
in the 1960s.
Watched over by Eric Rubber Legs De Vene (Julian Finn) the 7 seventeen year olds (Jenna Melling, Philip Tuffs, Daniel
Rubel, Lizzy Durant, Colette Reilly, Owen Boyle, Meika Etheridge) sung and danced about, relating the hardships that
must be suffered by every self respecting 17 year old. The problems, as old as time, are related through very funny
lyrics, written by the Heather Brothers, all set to lush 60s music (played by the Band a la Club a Go Go, headed by
Julie Geer) shamlessly pinching riffs from all the well know 60s bands. How many did you recognize?
The choreography was fast, furious, regular and manic, but above all well handled and quickly taught by Karen Perrenoud
and Barbara Brugger.
The Lighting (Martin Leu) and Set Management (Alydia Seidell and Chris Lerche) was equally fast and furious, but
its superb design and management meant that the show ran very slickly from start to finish.
60s fashion was suitably created by Linda Greenwood, make up suitably lashed on by Carolyn Hornfeld. The Sound Team
(headed by Philippe Brodier) dealt very well mixing the loud cast and the even louder band to create a fantastic loud
sound.
Tom Grafton directed, and loved every minute of it!
